Amazing Grace at Easter

The President of the Uniting Church in Australia Stuart McMillan has used his annual Easter message to encourage Australians to show ‘amazing grace’ in resolving conflict in our lives and our world.

The video message recorded at the Karama Indonesian Uniting Church congregation in Mr McMillan’s hometown of Darwin features singer Jessica Mauboy performing the classic hymn.

"It's this amazing grace, this love of God for all people which is the message of hope at Easter," said Mr McMillan.

“The love of Christ means we put the needs of others ahead of our own and seek to come together to find a new way forward, a way of peace and reconciliation.”

After 17 years of separation, the Karama Indonesian congregation recently reunited.

Moderator of the Uniting Church’s Northern Synod Rev. Thresi Mauboy Wohangara, who also features in the Easter message, says it was an emotional journey.

“Part of what Jesus teaches us to do is to bring people into unity and reconciliation,” said Rev. Mauboy.

“You can come together – to love one another, to support one another – and burn the burden and the suffering and start a new life.”
