Exploring the Humanity of Jesus and Muhammed (Peace Be Upon Them) was held at the Centre for Ministry (Synod of NSW & ACT) on Wednesday 18 March, sponsored by the Imam Hasan Centre, Charles Sturt University and PaCT.
Rev. Dr John Squires from UTC, who is also a member of the Uniting Church National Dialogue with the Jewish Community, spoke on the humanity of Jesus. He began by embedding his conversation into the Creeds of the Christian Church and then speaking about aspects of the humanity of Jesus.
Sheikh Arif Abdulhussein, the founder and Director of the Al Mahdi Institute in Birmingham, UK, introduced his talk with the statement that humanity is the manifestation of the beauty of God. The talk focused on ‘Godliness' as the humanity of the prophet Muhammed. This ‘Godliness' arose as nurture, the nurture of creation, the instilling of humanity with the utmost compassion, mercy and tolerance and the removal of nastiness or obstacles. In other words ‘Godliness' brought about the transformation of community.
The Auditorium at the Centre for Ministry was full. It was obvious from the number of Muslim younger people in attendance that the Al Mahdi Institute is well respected among younger people as they seek to be inspired by scripture.
