Diwali and Christmas Celebrations at Crows Nest

matajiatcrowsnestOn Sunday 21st November, Crows Nest Uniting Church held a joint Diwali / Christmas celebration.

Diwali (or Deepawali, meaning 'row of lamps') is a five day festival, which holds meaning for Hindus, Sikhs and Jains. Its name is derived from the practice of decorating homes using oil lamps to symbolize the triumph of good over evil and the removal of darkness. Diwali is a joyous occasion. Crows Nest Uniting Church welcomed Mataji, from Vedanta Hall in Burwood to speak about its importance to Hindus.

The Rev. Michael Barnes, of Crows Nest Uniting Church, spoke about the origins of Christmas, its significance in the Christian calendar, and to the lives of Christians the world over.
